How to integrate LifeMap/Atlas:

 

q       As a student I will encourage our students to sit down in our AIM lab and do it or suggest our managing director to consider doing a workshop.

q       I can ask all Roadmap Award students to further explore this function of Atlas.

q       Advise every student to utilize all tools (promote LifeMap tools).

o       Orientation

o       Partial admission process

o       Workshops

o       Newsletter

o       E-mails

q       When SLS students come for Career Center orientation let them know about it.  When we are working on one-on-one let them use it.

q       Provide information on Atlas LifeMap for Career Exploration and all the important resources available through Atlas.

q       Tell them about Atlas and LifeMap and encourage use.

q       I will actually show a student the tools in Banner of how to prepare their future.

q       Have workshops for students to attend so they could understand Atlas.

q       Introduce student employees in my office to this component.

q       To inform the students of the LifeMap tools and also to work it into my SLS class curriculum.

q       In one-on-one advising sessions with students actually introduce them to the research tools in Atlas, LifeMap tab, increase their understanding of what it can do for them.

q       Show how the plan can benefit them.

q       Print and post sample screens on bulletin board.

q       Through the advising process, I will make students aware of the value of LifeMap and provide direction as necessary.

q       Mention it and briefly demonstrate the educational and career plan to students I meet with individually.

q       I will tell them that the program is very user friendly and will help them with their career.

q       Tell them to think of something they love and choose a career that will allow them to enjoy what they do.

q       I work with Valencia Connection The Help Line and  I am going to advise every student who calls to create a career plan, for their own benefit, no matter what their question or reason for calling.

q       Tell them that this is excellent way to plan and have an outlook for the future, cause it is.

q       Talk to students about how Valencia uses Atlas to help them to be goal oriented and how important that is!

q       I am going home to talk to my daughter about using LifeMap to establish an educational plan.  She is a student at Valencia in nursing and just found out that she does not have all the prerequisites to get into the program.  She needs LifeMap!!

q       Bring it to their attention, then encourage them to set up an appointment with their counselor.

q       More breath mints and makeovers.

q       Encourage them to have a career goal.

q       Make it mandatory that all the students in my program sign-up.

q       My Education Plan

o       Letter to students notifying of tool

o       Schedule demonstration workshops

o       Goal:  All students have one, within first semester or at least by 30th, credit

q       Assist students in SLS classes and my office to establish MEP.

q       Ask students every time they are in my office, “Have you set up a career and educational plan?”

q       Use my status as a part-time student and part-time staff to encourage my peers (other students) to use Atlas.

q       I will encourage students to make a career plan for the future.  I’ll emphasize the importance of choosing a career.

q       I will ask all students I see to declare their major and job goals and to update Atlas with the information.

q       See that my career databases are refreshed annually.

q       Being a student and  also a staff member, I would encourage my classmates to set up an Atlas account  and I will inform them of the benefits.

q       Ask students if they have career and education plans.  Tell them where to get help if they need it.

q       By using Atlas to explore options during counseling sessions.

q       Encourage all students to “fully” utilize Atlas!

q       While advising students regarding Financial Aid, I will inform them of academic counseling and make it a routine to speak to my students about Atlas.

q       When counseling students, I will make sure that I ask them if they have an Atlas account.

q       Talk about the importance of having a plan to succeed in the future.  Basically it is like making a contract with yourself.

q       Show them the steps to access educational plan in Atlas.

q       Work with the students in the Start Right Math to require as part of our advising sessions to use MEP.

q       Encourage the student and assist in actually completing their LifeMap.

q       Encourage the use of Atlas in all courses not just student success.

q       I encourage students to use the Atlas system every day.  The opportunity usually arises when a new student asks me what should I sign up for.  This is my opportunity to encourage them to use the LifeMap.

q       Ask each student I come in contact with “Have you created your academic plan on Atlas?”  If emailing an answer on an email ask same?

q       I will mention it to all students with whom I do an educational plan in conference.

q       Discuss at orientation.

q       Specialized orientations for AS students that incorporate department support of the LifeMap planning suite.

q       Encourage students use MEP and the career planner.  Eventually the word  will get out.

q       Encourage and note the ways a student will benefit by utilizing the system.

q       Suggest that with an educational plan (saved) it will reduce trips to campus and wait times.  Keep your goals in front of you – it will HELP!

q       Inform them of the resources that Valencia has:  Website – LifeMap, Career Center, Advisors, etc., and how learning with connection + direction = success!

q       Each student I encounter, I will teach individually how to use  Atlas.

q       I will show students how to use MEP when they come into my office and  want to know what they need to complete their degree. I will encourage students to use my educational plan and if  they don’t know how,  I will show them.

q       Mention LifeMap and Atlas in welcome letters.

q       Put information about the LifeMap portion in a welcome to Valencia letter.

q       I would encourage the student to visit LifeMap to help them, if they haven’t already, to gain direction in a goal.

q       We can explain how time saving and helpful LifeMap is to students. LifeMap  is not only useful in the present but also in the future.

q       During registration, I will question students in the process of  admission, if they have set up an Atlas account .

q       When I see a student for advising I can ask them about the portal and My Career Plan and we can discuss it.  If not established, I can make a comment in space and ask them to come back to discuss it after the student creates it.

q       Put the Atlas address in newsletter and encourage students to get a plan.

q       I will encourage students to do everything possible BEFORE entering college to explore, ask questions and  job shadow different career options to better ensure a clear educational plan.

q       Encourage students to do plans and be prepared to share at our next meeting.

q       Encourage students while in high school to start thinking  about LifeMap.

q       Follow-up with students’ educational plans.

q       I will provide information to students and show the advantage of having an educational plan.

q       Say something like:  “One of the best ways to land the job you want is to have a plan and be organized.”

q       Ask them about their career goals and how Valencia can help map it out.

q       I will ask each student if he/she established a career/goal plan (LifeMap).

q       Advise students Atlas is a great tool to help make sure they are on the right track with their future.

q       I will encourage students to use  LifeMap by introducing the system on how to use it.

q       I will encourage student to use my  educational plan which  will help them with advising at home when they can’t come to campus.

q       Ask “do you have an educational plan?” and refer them to Atlas to make one.

q       Establish career and educational plan?  When accepting application at front counter – encourage students to get familiar with Atlas and establish a career and education goal plan.

q       Encourage students early on in process to go to website to become familiar with its offerings.

q       When a student comes to me and says, I don’t know what courses I need to take to graduate, I will refer them to the Atlas Portal educational plan.

q       I will provide the information about the plan and the benefit for students.  (job + salary = future)  I will use it myself also.

q       Make sure student is made aware of our Atlas Outpost location and they are being assisted.

q       Students who schedule an appointment with me will be required to complete a plan prior to that appointment.

q       Direct every student I meet to LifeMap.  .

q       Talk to students about LifeMap and MEP on an individual basis.

q       I always recommend each and every student I see in Financial Aid to have an educational plan to better utilize their financial resources.  (less loans)

q       Encourage a student in career path.  Turn your dream into a goal and always head towards that goal by following LifeMap procedures.

q       Can we come up with a printout of all things the students can do to map their career using Atlas.  We can provide them with this information.

q       Ask them if they have utilized the LifeMap program to help establish their goals.  Inform them if they do not know about it.

q       Ask students when applying to check out “LifeMap Tools” in Atlas and start their “Education Plan.”

q       I will encourage faculty and staff to experience LifeMap so they can teach students to use these tools.

q        Make it a requirement for appealing FA SAT progress immediately.

q        Consider tying an on-line FA application to it – so they must do it to get aid.

q       I’m going to “push” students to attend math lab tutorials and make use of individual math tutors so they can pass the math classes they register for.

q       When giving a student the initial intake form; encourage them to build an educational plan in Atlas.

q       The entire registration process would run smoother if you establish a Career Educational Plan.

q       Encourage them to come to me with an Education or Career Plan that we can review together.

q       Will refer students to do an Educational Plan on Atlas rather than perform degree audit on request.  Will discuss the plan with them after it’s printed out.

q       Require it as an assignment in my class.

q       I do not work directly with students, but I take classes at Valencia and I can talk about Atlas with my classmates and encourage them to develop an Educational Plan.

q       I will put it on Right Now Web.

q       I will explore site more fully in order to advise students in using LifeMap “parts” and I  will communicate the helpfulness of using these tools.

q       Show them LifeMap in my office before they leave and set a time for them to come back with saved material to review.

q       Put in catalog the benefits of est. career and educational (perhaps on front cover!)

q       Emphasize, tell them about LifeMap, MEP during orientation.
